Unlock: finish the story mission Repossession

Type: a Strangers and Freaks side mission, but it has to be finished to continue the story.

How it plays

  • A mission to learn the tow truck and haul an abandoned car to the impound.
  • Grab a tow truck off the road first, and the drive can go straight to the job and skip the impound.
  • Block the passenger door Tonya uses. Tonya then comes around to the driver's side, pulls Franklin out, and moves to the passenger seat.

Mechanics and cautions

  • Go too fast toward the impound and the hooked car can fall off.
  • Franklin's special ability does not apply to the towed car, so a sharp turn can pull it off the hook.

Unlocks after you finish

  • Tonya is added to Franklin’s contacts.
  • Story mission Chop becomes available. Marriage Counseling becomes available after the story mission Father/Son.
  • Strangers and Freaks: Paparazzo, and Shift Work (night only).
  • If Complications is already done: Grass Roots - Michael and Exercising Demons - Michael.
  • Tonya's next tow mission, Pulling Another Favor, becomes available.
  • Wait a bit after the mission and Tonya argues with JB on the phone.

Gold medal

Mission Time: finish within 5 minutes.

Unhook Bonus: keep the car hooked until the destination.

Related achievement

Solid Gold, Baby!: earn 70 gold medals on story missions and Strangers and Freaks.

Fail conditions

  • Franklin dies or is arrested
  • Tonya dies, is hurt, gets scared, is attacked, or you abandon her
  • You abandon the tow truck, wreck it, or it becomes undrivable
  • The towed car is wrecked
  • You leave the job area
  • Time runs out
